Hiiii! Welcome to my website!
The main goal of freyaonions.report is to collect my writing on my life, art and literature.
I began this blog in 2022, shortly after leaving university. As a result, the older sections are marked by an academicism it look me a long time to shake off. The newer posts are less intellectual, hopefully more readable, and certainly less cringe.
Below, I leave the original introduction to this site, which I wrote upon its creation in 2022.
Most of my writing efforts now go into the blog of this site, where I use prose – not poetry! – to, in words I’ve used elsewhere, find out how my transness, which I now see to be the purest form of my being, the cleanest and best part of me, is written into the confusions and occlusions of my psychic life [Reading 4: Idols].
The theoretical principles that underpin these writings are generally the same as those I outline in my Master’s Dissertation on transfeminist writing. At the same time, I am deeply indebted to the tradition of formally radical feminist writing represented by Kathleen Fraser and Beverly Dahlen.
In fact, it is Dahlen’s ‘interminable work’ of prose poetry, titled ‘A Reading’, that gives me the concept of a ‘reading’ as an interpretive reclamation of writerly- and readerly- agency from heteropatriarchal culture.
My ‘readings’ aim to add to this an interrogation of transness and cisnormativity. As I explain in my first post, I am interested in what a trans hermeneutic might look like, and how it might be used to regain agency in a society that systematically works to erase our voices.
For someone who had to remain invisible to herself for so long, I hope that this website will continue to provide me with solace, meaning and clarity.
Feel free to have a look around!
